Virtually all businesses receive large volumes of electronic documents from a multitude of sources, with no simple way of importing the documents into a centralized repository. Although digitizing information is critical, importing the material into a content management system is the only way to effectively make the content both accessible and actionable to and for operational users and external systems. However, given that these documents are often received in various formats and on a number of media, the process of importing them into an enterprise content management system can be complex.
What is Input eXpress?
Input eXpress is a utility that allows for the high-speed, large-volume import of electronic documents into IBM FileNet content repositories. Input eXpress automatically identifies the corresponding index values and commits the objects to either a Content Manager or Image Manager repository.
What are the features of Input eXpress?
Designed as a command-line utility, Input eXpress functions as a batch processing tool that enables system administrators to automate the import of large volumes of documents. Features of this tool include:
- Bulk Import Mode: Documents that are already separated into individual objects are imported with an accompanying file containing the corresponding metadata.
- Stream Import Mode: Content is imported from a single file that contains both the documents and the related metadata. This mode also offers additional capabilities that allow for segmenting batches of content into separate documents and indexing documents based on values extracted from the text or data.
- File Types: All file types supported by IBM FileNet are compatible with Input eXpress. This includes TIFF, PDF and many others.
- Metadata Processing: This feature provides the capability to interpret various formats such as fixed length records, delimited fields, or XML.
- Output Files: Input eXpress creates output files for each document, which can be used as input to external applications that need to store references to the newly created documents.
- Exception Files: Flags are created for any errors that occur when importing.
- Security Policies: Rules are applied to documents based on values contained in the metadata to ensure an extra level of protection and document access control.
- Java Development: Input eXpress can run on any platform that supports Java.
- Metadata Transformation: Input eXpress has the capability to transform metadata to reconcile discrepancies between the metadata of the source content and the formatting requirements of the destination system.
