Retrieval eXpress
IBM FileNet Content Manager (CM) and Image Manager (IM) products provide industry leading repositories for storing unstructured content. These tools provide high volume, highly optimized platforms for storing millions of images, documents, and other types of unstructured content used throughout an enterprise. To improve access to these repositories and increase interactive functionality for users across all levels of an enterprise, TriTek Solutions has created Retrieval eXpress, an application layer that enhances importing, searching, and working with content.
What is Retrieval eXpress?
Retrieval eXpress is a highly configurable application layer that allows user interaction with content stored in IBM FileNet repositories, both CM and IM. Retrieval eXpress includes all functions required in a production storage and retrieval system which are common from one enterprise to another, while accounting for differences in document classes, document properties, search templates, and security requirements. This solution is based on TriTek’s award-winning Trans@ction eXpress application framework, and offers a high level of configuration flexibility to support a complete enterprise with one product.
Retrieval eXpress Functionality
There are four main Retrieval eXpress functions:
Content Search: Retrieval eXpress can be configured with an unlimited set of search templates, each of which has a set of search and results fields. Searches can be performed against content properties, or in CM, against full text.
Content Viewer: From search results lists, users can select one or more pieces of content to open. The Retrieval eXpress content viewer organizes open content in a single window, with each piece of content in its own application.
Content Addition: While most content will be added via separate high-volume document entry applications, Retrieval eXpress allows users to add content from their desktop directly into the IBM FileNet repository. The system prompts users to enter properties for the type of content being imported and commits the content file and properties to the repository for use by any IBM FileNet user.
Security and User Preferences: Retrieval eXpress supports the definition of a hierarchical set of roles that can be used to control user access to different search templates. Thus a single Retrieval eXpress application can support many different groups in the enterprise, with each group seeing a different set of search templates. Roles can be tied to LDAP groups for ease of set-up and maintenance.
Key Features
Beyond the core functionality, Retrieval eXpress offers a host of additional features, including:
Constrained Searches: A template can include pre-defined search terms and values that cannot be changed by the user to limit the scope of a search.
Search Field Validation: Complex validations can be configured on fields to ensure submission of valid searches.Sets of related search fields can also be configured to enforce complex constraints on defining a search.
Document Tree View: Large collections of results can be displayed in a tree format that groups content in a hierarchy based on a set of configured content properties. When the user selects a node in the tree, they see a list of documents from that node making navigation through the results much easier and more intuitive.
Full CM Functionality: Retrieval eXpress supports full versioning capabilities including check-in and check-out so that content can be revised and returned to CM.
Re-Indexing: Based on authorization, content can be re-indexed by users directly through Retrieval eXpress.
Viewer Navigation: The Retrieval eXpress viewer window includes a list of currently loaded content and certain configured properties to simplify movement between the pieces of content.
